MMA Is Back In Asia: UFC Set To Return To Japan, Macau Before End Of Year

With yesterday’s largely unheralded UFC Fight Night Macao turning out to be a rousing success thanks to Dong Hyun Kim and Matt Mitrione’s hard-hitting knockout performances, news has come quick that the UFC will be returning to Asia quite soon.

And that includes a return to the home of some of the best mixed martial arts events of all-time.

According to FOX Sports, UFC Asia director Mark Fisher announced yesterday that the UFC will be returning to Japan’s Saitama Super Arena on September 20, the UFC will stage another event in the same spot where the classic wars of Pride Fight Championships were waged.

As far as Macau is concerned, the UFC will be going back there this year as well, slated to return to The Venetian Macau’s Cotai Arena on August 23. Yesterday’s event, which also featured the crowning of TUF: China’s inaugural contract winner in Zhang Lipeng, sold out to signify Asia’s continued love for MMA.

That’s great news for the UFC’s rapidly expanding global model, but at the heart of it, it benefits fight fans in the Eastern hemisphere who have been starved for events for too long.
