Going into UFC on FOX 16, former Pride FC lightweight champion Takanori Gomi (35-11) and Joe Lauzon (25-10) were attempting to rebound from their last bouts. Gomi was finished in the first round of his fight with Myles Jury in Sept. 2014. Lauzon was on the receiving end of a second round TKO loss to Al Iaquinta earlier this year.

Unfortunately for “The Fireball Kid,” he suffered his sixth loss in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Gomi swung a wild hook and Lauzon ducked under and took him down. Lauzon got control of “The Fireball Kid’s” back. Lauzon dropped some elbows to the side of Gomi’s head. “J-Lau” began whaling on Gomi with punches and Lauzon walked off before referee Herb Dean called a halt to the bout.

Final Result: Joe Lauzon def. Takanori Gomi via TKO (Strikes) – Round 1, 2:37
