Georges St. Pierre Teases Return: ‘I’m Starting To Get The Feeling’

ufc ppv all time records

All-time great former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has been out of action since his controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November 2013, yet “GSP” has seemingly been in the media since his decision to take some time off.

He’s opened up about Nick Diaz’s suspension and Hendricks’ failed UFC 192 weight cut, and in a recent interview with Canadian news outlet Reseau de sports (via MMA Fighting), he began teasing a potential return to the sport he made such an impact upon.

Apparent St. Pierre is training hard, as he noted to is interviewer that he has a few bums and bruises from the sessions:

“I’m training hard. As you can see, I have some bumps and bruises. I didn’t get these from falling down stairs.”

Expanding upon his possible intentions to return, St. Pierre indeed confirmed he was reacquiring the itch that made him the best welterweight MMA has ever seen:

“I’m starting to get the feeling, more and more, to come back. I watch the fights to see what’s going on in my division, and I’m staying in shape. It’s like a knife that I have to keep sharp just in case I ever decide to jump back in the mix. It’s not for sure that it won’t happen in 2015, but I’m not sure yet.”

Although time is certainly running out for a “GSP” return in 2015, current welterweight champ Robbie Lawler will take on Carlos Condit, who lost to St. Pierre in November 2012, for the title at January’s UFC 195. That means the time could be right for St. Pierre to take on the winner for the belt, especially if it’s “Ruthless” considering his two wins over “GSP’s” good friend and prodigy Rory MacDonald.

This all could be taken with a grain of salt; however, it’s probably the most concrete information St. Pierre has given about a return since he stepped away in late 2013.

It seems as it the perception of a return had been waning as of late, with Dana White suggesting that we had almost certainly seen the last of St. Pierre in the octagon. Judging by his words, that may not be the case just yet.
