Dillon Danis Claims Conor McGregor Beats Max Holloway, Then Targets Islam Makhachev

Dillon Danis has shared his thoughts on his friend and former training partner Conor McGregor’s UFC return bout.

The former UFC double champion is going to return to the octagon after nearly two years and will run it back with Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329.

Many believe that “The Notorious” will still possess the same power, mindset, and timing. However, after spending nearly half a decade away from the sport, McGregor could have ring rust, and he may struggle with his cardio against Holloway. However, “El Jefe” considers ring rust to be a mental hurdle and believes McGregor, who excels at mental warfare, has what it takes to overcome it.

During an interview with MMA Fighting, Dillon Danis confirmed that Conor McGregor is living in the gym, bringing in tough training partners, and is “beyond focused” on the Max Holloway rematch, keeping every distraction at bay to shine on his octagon return. The Dubliner will also not be attending this weekend’s UFC White House event. Danis said:

“He [Conor McGregor] has always been a dedicated guy. Obviously, everybody knows his stuff throughout the years. The injuries and stuff going on. But him not going to the White House card. Like I said before, he’s living in the gym. He’s bringing in tough training partners. He’s focused. He’s beyond focused. I’ve never seen him this dialed in… It’s a different kind of dedication that he has right now.”

Danis added that Conor McGregor’s conditioning looks excellent, and since the bout will be a 170-pound contest, it will play in favor of the Irishman:

“He is gonna clean Max. I’m telling you. At that weight and the way his body is looking and the way he is training and the way he’s putting in the dedication and the hours. There is no one that can come back from a layoff [and shine like Conor]. I don’t believe in ring rust. I’ve been out for a long time, and I come back, and I think ring rust is a mindset, and anybody who’s going to beat a mindset is Conor.”

Lastly, “El Jefe” opined that Max Holloway will be easy game for McGregor, who will knock “Blessed” before the second or third frame and then put his crosshairs on champion Islam Makhachev, whom Danis despises.

“People are really, really underestimating him [Conor]. I don’t want to give too much away, but I’m telling you. The old Conor McGregor… He is going to hurt Max really badly. I think he’s going to knock out Max, and then it’s going to be him and Islam [Makhachev]. I don’t think it makes it past three rounds. Maybe two. I think he cleans his jaw.”

This is not the first time the idea of a potential McGregor vs. Makhachev bout has been discussed. Last year, after Makhachev attained two-division glory, the Irishman lauded him and showed interest in fighting the 34-year-old.

Former UFC double champ McGregor is coming back with big plans and has his eyes on the “triple crown,” aka three-division glory.
