Colby Covington Drags Jorge Masvidal To Court Over Infamous 2022 Miami Beach Attack

Colby Covington’s long-running feud with Jorge Masvidal has once again found its way into the courtroom.

Once close allies who spent nearly a decade training together at American Top Team, Covington and Masvidal saw their relationship unravel as their careers climbed, with ego and underlying resentment turning friendship into one of UFC’s most bitter rivalries.

That animosity eventually spilled into the Octagon at UFC 272, where “Chaos” settled the score on fight night, securing a clear-cut unanimous decision win over his former teammate.

Many expected the animosity to end once they settled things in the cage, but the feud only escalated. Just weeks after their clash, “Gamebred” attacked Covington outside Papi Steak in Miami Beach, catching him off guard as he was leaving the restaurant. The incident led to Masvidal facing serious legal trouble, as he was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief in the aftermath.

Following a series of court proceedings, the former BMF titleholder finally saw the case reach its conclusion in November 2023 after pleading guilty to the charges. He was ultimately sentenced to time already served and ordered to cover the legal costs tied to the case. Despite the severity of the charges, which carried a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, Masvidal avoided any additional jail time.

Now, in April 2026, Colby Covington has once again taken Jorge Masvidal to court, continuing the legal fallout stemming from the attack.

According to a recent report by Local10.com, Covington’s legal team stated in court filings that he had decisively defeated Masvidal at UFC 272, a result that allegedly left the 41-year-old Miami native enraged. The filings further claim that “Gamebred” issued a direct threat during his post-fight interview, saying, “if I see him out in the streets, I’m going to give him everything I got to break his f*cking jaw.”

According to the filings, Covington’s attorneys argue that the attack carried out by Masvidal was deliberate and meant to inflict serious damage. They further state that “Chaos” suffered both head and physical injuries as a result of the incident, while also claiming his Rolex watch was damaged by roughly $15,000.
