“I Feel Bad For You” – Islam Makhachev SHOCKED Former UFC Champ Never Made More Than $1 Million For A Fight
A shocked Islam Makhachev was left feeling bad after a former UFC champ revealed that he never made more than $1 million for a fight in the promotion.
The fighter in question competed from 2011 to 2018 in the UFC, back when the payment landscape was quite different from how it is now.
The man who had Makhachev stunned is Demetrious Johnson. In a recent interview with the welterweight champ on his YouTube channel Mighty, Johnson was asked whether he ever made more than $1million for a fight in the UFC.
You never made more than $1million?
‘Mighty Mouse’ replied:
Not in the UFC, no, I didn’t.
An amused Makhachev quipped:
I feel bad now bro, for you.

Considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, Johnson had it tough attracting eyeballs to a division (flyweight) that didn’t excite as much as the others. As a result, the PPV sales of the events he headlined were comparatively poor.
Johnson, then, went on to have a successful six-fight stint at ONE Championship, where he also won the Flyweight belt, before announcing his retirement in 2024.

While also shedding light on his new venture, Pound 4 Padel, Makhachev stated:
I just tried one time, too many rules in Pickleball, which I don’t like…But I like more Padel.
Makhachev is set to take on Ian Machado Garry this Saturday at UFC 330, where he will defend his welterweight title for the first time.
