Chael Sonnen suspended for one year by CSAC

Although it is not surprising, it has officially been confirmed by the California State Athletic Commission(CSAC) that they have suspended UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen due to him testing positive for Performance Enhancing drugs prior to his UFC title fight with Anderson Silva.

A sample from his drug test came back with extremely high levels of Testosterone-to-estrogen level. These are usually the main warning signs when a Athlete is consuming PED drugs. They received the test results on 9/14/10 and it took less than 3 days for the Commission to suspend Sonnen for a full year. He has a maximum of 30 days to appeal the decision.

Executive officer George Dodd commented on the issue stating:

“The use of anabolic steroids and other banned substances are not tolerated by the commission”

he followed up by saying

” anabolic agents put the health and safety of both the user and his opponents at risk”

This is extremely unfortunate for Sonnen’s career, and I’m sure it sets him back further than any loss ever would. with Sonnen suspended for a year, you have to wonder if it will completely take away his new found “invincibility” and trash talk antics.
