With a lot to prove following an over 14-month layoff healing up from the torn ACL he suffered in his UFC 171 loss to top contender Tyron Woodley, no. 4-ranked UFC welterweight Carlos Condit made a triumphant return to the Octagon against Thiago Alves in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., May 30, 2015) UFC Fight Night 67 from the Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil.
It wasn’t necessarily easy, however, as the ultra-tough Alves proved a game challenge with a steady stream of power leg kicks that nailed Condit in the first as he found his timing. But the Jackson’s MMA stalwart soon figured out Alves’ game, blasting him with an endless stream of varied combos. His Muay Thai elbows especially left their mark, rocking Alves in the second and breaking his nose. Although the former title challenger was able to survive the endless ground and pound and submission attempts from Condit to finish the second round, the doctors made the decision to stop the fight in between the second and third after seeing the damage to Alves’ nose.
It was a bloody, classic performance from Condit, who has now stopped his opponent in an alarming 28 fights throughout his career. Check out the full fight video highlights of ‘The Natural Born Killer’s’ return win above.
