Anthony Joshua Explains the Unique Way Jake Paul Surprised Him: “I’ve never come across”
Anthony Joshua did tip his cap in a certain regard to Jake Paul ahead of their curious clash to close out the calendar year. Joshua will throw down with Paul on December 19th in Miami after an initially targeted booking for mid-November with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fell apart and left Paul without a dance partner.
While the depth of resumes and the physical differences are demonstrable between the two, even during some of the pre-fight faceoff situations the two have partaken in, AJ does tout something in ‘The Problem Child’ that he sometimes sees lacking amid the current landscape.
Expounding upon exactly what he meant by that during a pre-fight interview with The Schmo, Joshua said,
“Jake Paul is a very unique situation I’ve never come across, but I treat him with the same respect that I give all my competition. From a physical aspect, I couldn’t even mention anything at the minute, but from a mental aspect, he offered me the fight. Normally I’m offering people fights. He told me, ‘Come and fight.’ So he believes in himself.”

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul also got in digs at a former UFC heavyweight champion who has also had some big boxing bouts, including against Joshua himself. The fighter in question was Francis Ngannou, with ‘The Predator’ indicating he was made an offer for a fight with Paul, but found the matchmaking idea as outright disrespectful toward him.
At a pre-fight press conference before his Joshua bout, Paul referenced Ngannou’s meeting with the former unified heavyweight boxing champion, with Paul mentioning he will do a hundred times better against Joshua than what Ngannou was able to muster versus AJ. Joshua also chimed in on Francis Ngannou and intimated that if the PFL super fight champ was serious about making waves in boxing, that he would be about it and do his talking inside the ring.
