Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn Announced for September 12 in Las Vegas
Ryan Garcia will make the first defence of his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will stream globally on Paramount+, while DAZN holds exclusive rights in the UK and Ireland.
Garcia captured the WBC 147-pound belt with a unanimous-decision win over Mario Barrios in February. He scored an opening-round knockdown and took control over the 12 rounds to add a recognised world title to his résumé after earlier championship setbacks.
Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn
The September bout gives Benn his first crack at a world title. The 29-year-old has been positioning himself for a return to welterweight after fighting Chris Eubank Jr. twice at middleweight last year, losing their first meeting before winning the rematch on points after dropping Eubank twice.
Benn took another step back down in weight in April, beating former two-time super-lightweight champion Regis Prograis by unanimous decision on the Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov card. The win was Benn’s first under the Zuffa Boxing banner after signing a multi-fight agreement with the promotion in February.

The Garcia fight adds a major U.S. assignment to Benn’s career at a time when he has been clear about his ambition to become world champion. His father, Nigel Benn, won world titles at middleweight and super-middleweight, while the WBC belt now offers Conor the chance to build his own chapter at the same organisation.
Garcia and Benn have traded shots online for months, and their rivalry has carried a personal edge since Garcia first named the Briton as his next opponent in May. Garcia has framed the contest as Mexico versus the UK, while Benn has consistently identified the WBC title as his target.
The path to an official announcement was not entirely smooth. Garcia remains aligned with Golden Boy Promotions, while Benn is tied to Zuffa Boxing, and Golden Boy issued a cease-and-desist letter last month alleging that a Zuffa-promoted Garcia-Benn event and a Paramount+ broadcast would breach its rights. The confirmed event indicates an agreement was reached to move the fight forward.
For Garcia, the fight is a chance to establish a run at welterweight after a mixed recent period that included a defeat to WBA champion Rolando Romero before the Barrios victory. For Benn, it is the biggest opportunity of his professional career: a world-title fight in Las Vegas against a champion with speed, a sharp left hand and a sizeable U.S. audience.
The card lands on Mexican Independence Weekend and takes place on the same date as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s scheduled clash with Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, putting two high-profile boxing events on the calendar for September 12.
