Jose Aldo To Chad Mendes: I Know You’ll Beat The Joker Up

Reigning champion Jose Aldo has previously referred to the featherweight division in an interesting way, saying that he was the king, while No. 1-contender Chad “Money” Mendes is the prince, and the “Notorious” Conor McGregor is just a joker.

Aldo was scheduled to defend his title for the eighth against the so-called joker in one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport at this weekend’s (July 11, 2015) UFC 189 from Las Vegas, Nevada, but unfortunately had to pull out due to a rib injury. Fans were extremely disappointed as the bad blood, and hype leading up the bout was like no other, but instead Mendes will fill in and fight McGregor for the interim belt.

That being said, Aldo may not necessarily face the Irishmen next if “Money” can score a win this Saturday. If that’s what was to happen, Aldo and Mendes would meet for a third time, as they have previously met at UFC 142 and UFC 179 with the latter being one of the best fights of all time. Apparently “Scarface” would like a trilogy bout with Mendes, as the champion took to his official twitter account today to root on the Team Alpha Male stand out.

Aldo said that he has great respect for “Money” and that he knows Mendes will beat up the joker, obviously referring to the brash and outspoken McGregor:

Usually when a challenger loses twice to a champion it’s extremely hard to gain a third shot, but that would be guaranteed for Mendes if he is able to become the interim champion, and although it would be a great bout, part of me believes a unification bout between Aldo and McGregor would just a monstrous fight.
