Travis Browne: Putting Hands On Women Is Not In My DNA

FS1 1 12 Overeem Browne 091

It’s been a rough few months for heavyweight slugger Travis Browne. Not only did ‘Hapa’ get knocked out by former training partner Andrei Arlovski at UFC 187, he’s faced accusations of domestic abuse from his estranged wife Jenna Webb too. The fitness model posted pictures of bruises all over her body this past July on social media, indicating Browne as the perpetrator in an alleged string of assaults.

”Hapa’ has kept his silence over the matter, and later news revealed, as confirmed just last night, that the Hawaiian heavyweight was in a relationship with Ronda Rousey. Talking with The MMA Hour, as quoted by Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting, Browne addressed the accusations of physical abuse by Webb:

“Have I ever gotten physical towards her?” Browne said. “No, absolutely not. Like I said, there’s circumstances surrounding all this. That’s up to her and her family to deal with. I’m back to fighting. The results speak for themselves.”

“I think people have the wrong idea about the investigation that the UFC put on,” Browne said. “A lot of people feel like it was an investigation to clear me, which that is the farthest thing from the truth. The whole point of that investigation was to find the truth.”

Eventually cleared by the investigation, Browne has been booked in for a showdown with Matt Mitrione in January at UFC Fight Night 81. He maintains that hitting women is not in his DNA, and that people have been headline hunting rather than telling the whole story:

“I’m a lot of things,” Browne said. “I can be an asshole. I can be mean. But putting my hands on a woman is absolutely not in me. That goes against everything in my DNA as a human being. The general public may not have an understanding about me and what I do, how I feel about my children, how I feel about my family, how protective I am over my family and children. They just see a big guy in a cage that fights, that knocks people out or this and that.”

“I’m moving onward and upward,” Browne said. “It was a bump in the road and it was a very unfortunate situation. The truth has come to light. In a sense, the truth will set you free. Even though it’s in the court of public opinion, people are just headline hunting instead of educating themselves.”

So ‘Hapa’ will be back in action in 2016, an innocent man, and vindicated after what’s transpired this past few months. Let’s hope he can now focus on ‘Meathead’ for their date in Boston in the New Year.
