Report: UFC Looking To Book Glover Teixeira vs. Phil Davis

After their lacklustre performances at UFC 172, light-heavyweight’s Glover Teixeira and Phill Davis are looking to get back inside the Octagon to rebuild their careers. If the UFC gets its way, the pair will start in a matchup against one another later this year.

UFC officials are reportedly in the middle of setting up the clash between the 205 pound contenders according to a report by Ariel Helwani on last nights episode of UFC Tonight. Helwani said the bout is being considered for some time in the fall.

Both men were last seen in action on April 26 where they both suffered extremely one-sided unanimous decision losses. Teixeira was shutdown in the main event by Jon Jones in his attempt to take the champion’s crown.

The Brazilian’s loss to Jones was the first of his UFC career after going 5-0 in the promotion to earn his title shot against “Bones”. The defeat also snapped Teixeira’s 20-fight winning streak and gave him his first loss since 2005. Prior to that he has racked up wins in the Octagon over the likes of Ryan Bader, James Te Huna and Quinton Jackson.

Davis will also be looking to erase memories of his previous performance after he was mauled by Anthony Johnson in “Rumble’s” return to the Octagon. “Mr Wonderful” is now 1-3 in his last four outings after with wins over Lyoto Machida, Vinny Magalhaes and Wagner Prado.

He will need a strong showing against Teixeira if he wants to stay in title talk. One more loss to Teixeira will put him a long way down the line and possibly end his hopes of fighting for the title.

No event or venue has been rumoured for the matchup with it not yet being official, so stay tuned to LowKick for more updates on the possible matchup in the following days.
