Glover Teixeira thinks he can beat Jon Jones

The man nobody wants to fight thinks he can defeat the man nobody can beat.

As Teixiera prepares for Fabio Maldanado at UFC 153 in Rio de Janerio, the Brazilian fighter with a healthy buzz has become the talk of the MMA world as both Shogun Rua and Rampage Jackson dropped out of the Teixiera sweepstakes due to either not wanting to face him or a mysterious injury. Stephan Bonnar was also presented the fight with Teixiera but he turned it down as well and said that he would only take on fighters with more Twitter followers than him.

"It kind of sucks because I have to put in a few more fights in the UFC," Teixiera said to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. "I'm ready to fight those guys but they don't want to fight because of the name, the Twitter followers and everything. It's kind of hard for me. I like the old school."

Despite the bigger names steering clear of Teixiera, the fighter with a 16 fight winning streak will get a chance to show the world what he's got against Maldonado. A victory will likely propel him to the upper echelon of the division and closer to a showdown with current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones due to the 205 lbs kingpin swift work of the top names in his weight class. Although Teixiera feels that he's still a few fights away from challenging Jones for the title, that doesn't mean that he doesn't think he can beat him.

"I train so hard and I have to believe in myself," Teixiera said. "People are already saying I can challenge Jon Jones but I have a lot of work to put in (before) I can challenge him. But if they put me in a fight with Jon Jones right now, I'll get the title."

Well Jones has pretty much cleaned out the division beating all the former champions and top contenders,, except Dan Henderson. Someone's gotta challenege sooner rather than later. Im curious to seee how he does vs Maldonado first. You gotta walk before you run.

Glover will have to beat one or two top division guys (Rashad / Rua) before he's offered the title shot. The UFC, not to mention the fans, are eager to have a new challenger for Jones who's been reigning supreme in this division.

He's smart for putting that out there. If no one wants to fight him then he should just start calling them out. Who better than Jonny bones.

"If they put me in a fight with Jones know, I'll get the title". Easy to say when there's no chance it will happen.

From what I've seen of this guy, he's a beast but it's still way too early to start the title shot hype train.

If Glover wins I#d give him the winner of Rua vs Gustafsson.

it doesn't seem he was asking for Jones next, just that if presented with the fight he'd not only take it but win it. He said he needs to fight other people for whatever reason, I can't wait to see him fight more but I don't think even with the most impressive win that he'd deserve the Shogun vs Gustufson winner if it's Gus. if Gus wins impressively I think he'd have the choice to fight Jones or keep building up, if Shogun wins I think the fight makes sense right now, however I'd rather see Glover fight Rashad to see how he deals with high level wrestling.

Not asking for the fight, but still disrespectful, especially when he's a few matches away from having to back up your words.

People unloaded on Sonnen for talking about Silva before he was anywhere near fighting him.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see Glover fight. I think he could be two wins away from a title shot. Nothing wrong with believing you can beat the champ, otherwise why fight?

But JJ just equaled Liddell's record for title defenses at 205, and did it by beating 5 former UFC champs in a row. So I think Glover should get a few more wins before talking about himself on that level.

Why on Earth would you want to make Glover and Gus fight at this point?

These two guys are some of the best prospects in MMA right now and frankly are the two most promising new additions to the weight class since Jon Jones himself.

Apart from Hendo the only two other guys which make an interesting fight with Jones is Gus and Glover so I definitely wouldn't want to derail either of their hype

I think your third paragraph answers your first one.

Who ever wins the fights coming up, it will be 3-4 months before they could fight and then another 3-4 months before that winner got a title shot.

Hendo is not coming of knee surgery into a title shot. Machida had his chance, so I'm guessing he's at least a fight away.

Jones needs opponents and he's already beaten his share of former champions. Why not test him with someone his won age?

Even if they don't win, the experience will make them more dangerous opponents in the long run.

I meant why would you want to make them fight each other.

Really it's gonna be Gus getting the title shot if he dos good against Shogun

Oh thanks god, Glover is the savior of this division. With full of match ruiners. I am not mad on Jon Jones, I am so mad on Lyoto and Shogun they were my idols and they refused to fight. Its like childhood trauma than spiderman would refuse to save Mary Jane. But this trauma is for me as fan.

Right now I wouldn't really say he could or he couldn't, not seen enough of him or how he does against top competition but I will say he seems super promising.

If Glover is as good as he has shown and is touted as, he could be the future of this division along with Jones and Gus.
