With 50 % Of His ACL Gone, Daniel Cormier Taking Time To Consider Options

Daniel Cormier vice 670

UFC light-heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier has looked impressive since his move down from the heavy division; smashing the unfortunate Patrick Cummins in his divisional debut at UFC 170, and then proceeding to literally toss Dan Henderson around like a $2 hooker on free-for-all night, at 173. Much has been said about Cormier’s right to a title shot in his new home at 205 pounds, but it seems that may be on hold for the moment.

After the official announcement of Jones vs. Gustafsson II, it was apparent that DC would either have to fight again or remain inactive while ‘Bones’ and Gus settle their differences. After stating that he would indeed fight again if necessary, it appears that the choice has been taken out of Cormier’s hands. According to Ariel Helwani, DC has some serious issues with his ACL (Anterior cruciate ligament). Check out what the word from UFC Tonight is, via Helwani’s Twitter feed:

Now 15-0 and looking like a real force to be reckoned with, perhaps the lay-off will come as good and bad news. Bad news because I suspect Cormier finds it easier to stay active, therefore ‘embracing the grind’ as it were, and good news because he may not have to put his standing at risk again before fighting Jones. As well as the names on his spotless record, Cormier also has the long-standing beef with Jon Jones to lean on.

Let’s hope that DC gets better ASAP, and continues his reign of destruction at light-heavyweight. In the meantime, can we think of a new nickname? I’m not sure that ‘The Black Fedor’ will catch on in the UFC, and ‘DC’ is a little meh. Ideas?
