Confirmed: Alexander Gustafsson Gets The Winner Of Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier At UFC 182

As Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier prepare to face each other at UFC 182, the UFC light-heavyweight division has once again been put in to turmoil. Alexander Gustafsson was originally meant to get the title shot against “Bones” at UFC 178, but a torn meniscus meant that the Swedish star was sidelined and replaced by “DC”.

The champion then suffered a knee injury in training, meaning that UFC 178 turned to UFC 182, which was very disappointing for “The Mauler” as he would have recovered for that time. The time since has been spent speculating on what the title picture will look like come 2015, when Jones and Cormier finally face off.

Surging 205-pounder Anthony Johnson has been very vocal about fighting Gus before he gets a title shot, but then today happened. Taking to his Facebook account to announce the news, Gustafsson said the following:

So Gustafsson has the next title shot, in Sweden potentially, and I can’t say he doesn’t deserve it. After not getting a rematch following possibly the best title fighter ever at UFC 165 against Jones, “The Mauler” took on dangerous banger Jimi Manuwa on his home turf in London. The big knockout that Gus scored punched his ticket for the rematch eventually.

So for “Rumble”, he will be fighting elsewhere. That being said, with his refusal to fight team mate Rashad Evans, and recent bookings of Phil Davis and Glover Teixeira, who will the Blackzilian product have to fight? Stay tuned to LowKick for more updates as this story develops…
