Fan Opinion: The mess in the middle of the Middleweight division

Now just a year ago the Middleweight division seem to get at its peak with former PRIDE champion Dan Henderson that seem ready to take the spider out after his KO of the year against Bisping , and Former pancrase champion Nate Marquartd also making his way to the title to rematch Anderson Silva , and the return of “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort  the division seem to get better and better , making the champ having 3 possible contenders to defend his belt .

Just a few months ago, everything was working out for the UFC. Vitor Belfort fought for the title after Dan Henderson was let go from the UFC , and Nate “The Great” Marquartd set to fight the winner of Silva vs Belfort , just a few weeks after another contender got his way in the mix as former WEC middleweight champion

The mess started after Dan Henderson left letting a lot of fans down with the end of the rematch, and become really messier when the title fight was off due to and injured by the challenger Belfort and the complete domination of no.1 Contender Nate Marquardt by Sonnen leaving the title without challenge, the timing of Dan Hendersons going to Strikeforce was the worst one .

Chael Sonnen suspended for medical reason, and Marquartd out of the mix and Belfort injured the champion seem to be with out a challenge again leaving back up plan Demian maia with a 1-1 record of his last 2 fights the entire card seem to lost its value and a lot of people believe the champion needed a real challenge after 2 poorly title defenses a lot of people believe he havent defend his belt since UFC 82.

People believe that he should just fight at Light Heavyweight since he’s already 2-0 at 205 , but others thing he should defend his belt since he has unfinished business .

Maia has a chance but if he fails, what after that? Who should be his next opponent? Should he defend it to all 3 contenders? Or should he just stay at 205 and make a run to the title before its too late or just make super fights like GSP , Mir and Couture? What do the fans think about the mess?

Yeah ask Matt Serra if GSP laid and prayed in their second fight. I don't think rib-busting, tko-causing knees to the body really falls within the definition of lay and pray. Or Jon Fitch, whose face was turned into putty, not with lay and pray. Or how about BJ Penn who was so concussed after four rounds that his corner threw in the towel.

Wikipedia has an accurate definition of lay and pray, look it up bud.

Its been since Henderson since Silva had a worthy opponent, so I really don't know whats in store for Silva.

Of course with credentials like that, I guess he can do pretty much whatever he chooses and UFC would be good with that also.

205 is the biggest challenge for him, plus its way more exciting fan wise.

GSP is still too small for anderson silva, mir is too big and couture isn't really a challenge for him.

205 is definitely the place to go if he wants a challenge. He has a good chance at dominating there, but the risk of losing is much greater also.

After trashing Maia in his next fight, he should sign to face the winner of a match between Belfort vs Sonnen. What's happen in the MW division is not Anderson's fault.

defiantly a mess is what u call it moving to 205 is ideal but i think he should still hold on to the middleweight belt till he lose it vitor, will be back sonnen, is a possibility there still some good fighters in middleweight lets see vitor vs anderson first be before moving up...

Its a mess because of the freakin UFC! When Dan beat Bisping, he deserved a shot. When Nate beat Maia, he deserved a shot. Then they give the shot to Vitor??? That is totally ridiculous! We need real rankings!

As a fan i want to see Silva move up to 205, and get into the top 5 of the division their is alot of good matchups, Shogun, Evans, Lil Nog, Machida asuming they would fight each other, or maybe a year from now Silva vs Jones not that would be exciting!

Hardly a mess, I mean i can't even think of a fight for either GSP or Penn that would be as exciting as silva vs belfort, that's what happens when champions dominate their division, that's why all 3 of them talk of switching weights.

He can fight all 3 of them, then move up to 205.

There needs to be a code of ranking, for all orgs (strikeforce overroid crap comes to mind) and things would progress as they should instead of whats convienant or sells the most.

Anderson Silva like BJ Penn has clearly proven his dominance in the middleweight division. Considering Anderson only has about 2 to 3 years left in ufc, it would be nice to go up against some competitive competition such as lyoto or shogun. Can't remember the last time Anderson was in a competitive fight and i know he has amazing skill but look at his 2 wins against Irvin and Griffine, he belongs in light heavyweight

any heavyweight in the ufc will have trouble against silva. he has a gift for being able to see what your going to do before you do it. fedor is the only other guy with that gift. if he fought brock lesner, brock could not catch him cause he has great footwork. the best in mma. then when brock can't get the takedown, silva would dissect him the way he did forrest.
