The Battle of the Stepping Stones. Brock Lesnar vs Roy Nelson
Posted on October 28, 2010, 03:01 PM by WanderlouieAfter his recent loss to the current UFC Heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez, Brock Lesnar is looking to prove himself worthy of another title shot. With Junior Dos Santos next in line for a shot at the belt, Lesnar will have to fight his way back against challenging opponents. However, the question remains, "Who is capable of giving Brock a run for his money?".
I believe the answer to that is none other than Ultimate Fighter winner, Roy "Big Country" Nelson. Both fighters are coming off big losses to great opponents. Brock was TKO'd by the heavyweight champion and Roy lost via unanimous decision to the top contender in the heavyweight division, Junior Dos Santos. Roy Nelson was announced to fight Brock's last victim, the heavy-handed Shane Carwin, however in a recent turn of events, Carwin pulled out of the fight due to injuries. Now is the perfect time for Roy Nelson and Brock Lesnar to finally meet in the octagon.
In Lesnars recent fights against Carwin and Velasquez, it is evident that he needs to work on his striking game and in his first submission loss in the UFC to former champion, Frank Mir, it is evident that his ground game isn't perfect either. Roy Nelson is the perfect opponent to put Lesnar's weaknesses to the test. Roy Nelson proved his high ranking jiu jitsu skills when he faced BJJ black belt Frank Mir at Grapplers Quest and won. He has proven his viscious power in his hands with knockout victories over Brendan Schaub and Stefan Struve. He also recently faced world class striker, Junior Dos Santos, and went toe to toe with him for three full rounds where he proved his excellent chin and cardio.
A win over former UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar, would be a huge stepping stone for Roy Nelson in his UFC career and would launch him one step closer to a title shot. However, if Lesnar could overcome all the skills Roy Nelson brings to the table, it could also be a huge step closer on his quest to regain the belt and he would prove himself to all the MMA fans who doubt his abilities.

yeah... why not. might be good.
one problem, Lesnar is out for 6 months to the blows he took from the fight.
sorry to hit weak on that, I meant to press sharp
Brock, however much I am not a fan, is the ex champ, he shoudnt be fighting Nelson, a rematch with shane would be a lot more sensible
1. He wouldnt be proving anything with another win over Carwin unless he knocked him out which wouldnt happen.
2. Carwin just pulled out of his Nelson fight due to injuries as stated in the article
Shane may be out for a long time if her gets surgery on his back, and I am pretty sure he is, besides, being an ex champ, he has more of resume and profile, so your point is ridiculous
Like you just said, those are his weaknesses.... He just fought less than a week ago, so why would he need a "perfect test" for the same weaknesses that have already been exposed? Its not as if he went home and became everything he wasnt a week ago...
thats why they train... would he be fighting this week? no....
Lol, even in a few months man...
It's not happening. I heard Brock was on a 2 month medical suspension
Yea after getting knocked out, every fighter has to be on a 2 or 3 month FIGHTING suspension. However, he could still train during those 2 months for a fight in 2 months.
Brock is on 180 day suspension if im not mistaken which is a while plus he said he wanted to take some time off like a year
Brocks statement about taking off after the fight was only if he won. now that he lost he hasnt released a statement but dana white spoke to his camp and he said he was going to spend a couple of DAYS with his family. he'll be back very soon.
and he's not suspended 180 days.
clearly if you look at the suspensions it says Lesnar is out for 180 days for eye laceration or 60 days if eye clears.... do your research bruh
umm "bruh". it says 180 days if not cleared by opthomologist...like it does for every fighter after every fight. they are always cleared. do YOUR esearch "bruh"
Clearly once again i just said that this time ill tell you how to read bruh.
Clearly brah you brahs need to brah hug it out.
hes out cause of hie eye and the cut.
No, he recieved 45 days due to knockout. And 60 days for laceration. so overlly he needs to do 60 days, 30 days of no sparring. thats an official statement from the california state athletic commision.
I doubt it....
I think as competitive as he is he needs a solid 5 or 6 months off (maybe put him on the april card in toronto that would be big wrestlemania has been there b4 and i beleive brock has a big following there). He has a laceration in his cheek so even though he can train he cant spar for a while, and thats what he needs to be doing the most.
While I agree that it might be in his best interest to take off for 5 to 6 months, knowing Brock's competitive nature, i doubt he will. he cant spar for 30 days but after that he's in the clear
Lesner-Nelson would be a great fight
can Lesner bulldoze Big Country?
Can Nelson prove to be the next challenger?
can either solve the others' riddles?
great match
I actually think Nelson could win. He has a great chin, good stand up and wrestling and better grappling than Mir. I see Brock getting subbed in the second round or KOd. If Brock did win I don't see him bulldozing Nelson.
why would Lesner suddenly be a stepping stone?
compared to who?
Nelson maybe
if he doesn't come up with a big win in his next match
It would be a good match up, could go either way, Roy Nelson using his fat, ju jit su and more advanced striking could pull that fight off, that is if Brock doesn't take Roy down and GNP's is belly off.
But Brock is out for like 6 months, so i guess we will have to wait until next year
If this was a main event fight it should be titled "Muscle Vs. Fat"
Tim Sylvia vs Roy Nelson WAAAY more competitive than Brock vs Roy ;)
