WSOF 10 Medical Suspensions: Georgi Karakhanyan Out Three Months With Rib Injury

Last Saturday night (June 21, 2014), World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 10 went down from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event featured three solid title fights, with David Branch submitting Jesse Taylor to win the middleweight title in the main event. But the co-main event was the most surprising moment of the evening.

Former featherweight champion Georgi Karakhanyan saw his belt disappear when he was brutally battered by the much taller Rick Glenn, who survived a very tight first round armbar to rain down relentless ground and pound. After suffering a rib injury during the assault, Karakhanyan was unable to answer the bell for the third round, making the lesser-known Glenn an unlikely titleholder.

Karakhanyan received a three-month medical suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) after the fight. He can potentially resume training sooner if he undergoes an x-ray and is cleared by a physician. Otherwise, he will be out until September 20.

Check out the full list of WSOF 10 medical suspensions courtesy of MMA Fighting below. Noticeably absent from the list is Emi Fujino, the Japanese veteran who showed a ton of toughness in suffering a bloody beating at the hands of women’s strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar.
