UFC 209 Preliminary Results: Marcin Tybura TKOs Luis Henrique

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, March 4th, 2017) will come from in the form of UFC 209. Headlining the card are Stephen Thomson and Tyron Woodley, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Marcin Tybura vs. Luis Henrique in a heavyweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1 in what should be an interesting fight. In round 1, Henrique catches the kick and almost gets a takedown. Henrique lands a big knee on the way up, Tybura catches it and sweeps the leg. In round 2, Tybura times a great knee as Henrique shoots, but the Brazilian eats it like a sandwich. Tybura’s takedown defense finally fails. Later in the round, Henrique is wobbled briefly by the front kick but he gets the clinch again, finally landing some offense on the inside to close out the round. In round 3, Henrique clinches with him right out of the gate. Henrique tagged him with an elbow that stunned Tybura. The referee separated them. Henrique clinched again with him. Tybura scored a takedown with less than two minutes to go and got full mount and rained down strikes to end the fight.

Darren Elkins vs. Mirsad Bektic is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, right hands landing for Bektic. He eats one in return but his speed is ridiculous. Easy takedown for Bektic, cuts through his guard. Elkins taking the damage at the moment. Bektic gets crucifix and this is really early in the round. Bektic just brutalized Elkins in that round. He’s a bloody mess. In round 2, Bektic closes the distance inside the first 30s and gets another quick takedown but Elkins gets up on the fence right away. Bektic took him down again and stayed on him. Elins continues to bleed. In round 3, Bektic shooting again without a good setup and he’s really working hard to get this takedown. Bektic gets the takedown moving to a single leg.Elkins went for a leglock but had to let go of it. Elkins just clipped Bektic with a headkick as Bektic was turning to move out of the pocket and put him out!

Iuri Alcantara vs. Luke Sanders is next in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Alcantara opens up with a big slamming takedown and Sanders immediately scrambles through and back up. Alcantara was throwing some bombs early but was missing. Sanders catches the kick and he’s got a takedown and he’s drilling Alcantara on the ground. Sanders got his back and landed some big strikes. Break in the action after Sanders lands a knee to the head of a grounded opponent, which is illegal. The referee took one point away from Sanders. They exchanged to the finish. In round 2, Alcantara throws overhand left that leads to clinch and he lands a nice left on the break. Big shot for Sanders that has Alcantara shooting. Sanders stunned him and took him down midway through the round but Alcantara got back to his feet. Sanders with a knee strike to the head of Alcantara, which dropped him. Sanders busted him up up against the cage while in the clinch. Alcantara went for a takedown but Sanders stuffed it. Alcantara rolls and gets the tap from a kneebar out of nowhere!

Daniel Spitz vs. Mark Godbeer in a heavyweight opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Godbeer tagging Spitz repeatedly over the top. Spitz rushing into the clinch. Spitz just got buckled by an inside leg kick. They exchanged to the bell. In round 2, Spitz starting to try to brawl and just got clobbered.Spitz took him down with just over a minute into the round and got guard. Godbeer scrambled to his feet. Spitz clinched and landed some knees until they separated. Spitz started to get tired. Godbeer started landing some left knee strikes to the body and continued to fire off strikes. Spritz was bleeding from his nose. In round 3, Godbeer continued the beating and somehow, Spitz held on for all three rounds. The judges gave the win to Goodber.

Paul Craig vs. Tyson Pedro in a light heavyweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. Pedro with a nice body knee and he’s able to reverse position on the fence against Craig. Pedro landed a judo throw but Craig got back to his feet. Pedro dropped him with a right hand and he let Craig up. Pedro cracked him again with a right hand then clinched and landed some big knee strikes to the head. Pedro slammed him down and got side control then landed some elbows to earn the TKO victory.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Albert Morales vs. Andre Soukhamthath in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, they have a feeling out process early. Soukhamthath went for a flying knee but Morales caught him with a series of strikes. Morales trying to open up late, but got countered well instead. In round 2, Morales ducking under Soukhamthath’s counter hook for a takedown there. Looking to take the back. Soukhamthath scrambled to his feet and Morales clinches with him on the fence. Morales went for a takedown but Soukhamthath scrambled and got his back. Soukhamthath gets in half guard on top. Nice knee from Soukhamthath as they stand to close the round. In round 3, Soukhamthath comes out swinging a left hook and landing. Both men getting their hands going. Soukhamthath going to the body over and over with left hooks and knees Morales hits combos up top. Crazy pace. Soukhamthath shoots for a takedown and clinches with him up against the fence. Morales got his back and went for a rear-naked choke. Soukhamthath gets his chin locked down. Soukhamthath is bleeding heavily from his nose. This is how the round ends. Morales picked up the decision win.
