UFC 154 Results Recap: Johny Hendricks makes a title shot statement

Johny HendricksUFC 154 is in the books from Montreal, Canada and GSP has successfully defeated Carlos Condit to unify the UFC Welterweight titles. With his tenth win in a row, St-Pierre showed flashes of the brilliance that brought him to prominence. His wrestling, as expected, was simply too tough to overcome. He may be derided for not finishing Condit, who was a bloody mess from the relentless ground-and-pound of GSP. St-Pierre did fall into some danger in the third round after a vicious headkick from the NBK, who followed with some ground shots of his own. But GSP recovered nicely, and used his nonstop takedowns to control the fight in all facets. St-Pierre also utilized his effective trademark left jab to pepper Condit while staying outside of his opponent’s dangerous striking. While Anderson Silva was cageside, he didn’t appear in the Octagon as most hoped, and no news has been discussed as far as him fighting GSP as of yet.

In other action, Welterweight contender Johny Hendricks put on a show when he knocked out a man who is notoriously tough to finish in Martin Kampmann. He missed with a right but followed with his power left to catch Kampmann right on the button. An unecessary hard ground punch sealedd the deal for Hendricks, who has stated he will wait for his title shot with the impressive win.

The rest of the main card was dominated by decisions, as Francis Carmont took a controversial decision from “Filthy” Tom Lawlor, who appeared to attempt more finishes than the Frenchman Carmont. Rafael dos Anjos took home the win over Mark Bocek in a tough match, and Pablo Garza used top control to batter Mark Hominick for a decision win.
