Sean O’Malley rightfully beat Song Yadong, says Aljamain Sterling

Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling believes that Sean O’Malley was the rightful winner in his fight against Song Yadong at UFC 324.

Last weekend, Sean O’Malley went head to head with Song Yadong in what proved to be a pretty competitive bantamweight bout. Many were of the belief that ‘Suga’ would be able to pick up the win, and that if he did, he would go on to face Petr Yan for the UFC bantamweight championship later this year. While it was pretty close, and many had it going Song’s way, O’Malley did manage to get his hand raised.

It was perhaps a tighter fight than a lot of people had anticipated, but Sean O’Malley did what he had to do – just. There’s no clear direction right now regarding who is going to get the shot at Yan, because at this moment in time, Sean is simply one of three clear options alongside Umar Nurmagomedov and a trilogy with Merab Dvalishvili.

In a recent tweet, Sean O’Malley’s former foe Aljamain Sterling gave his thoughts on how the fight played out.

Aljamain Sterlnig’s view on Sean O’Malley vs Song Yadong

Fan: “@funkmasterMMA please share your thoughts on that. Basically you can’t let anything go to decision if you’re fighting one of Dana’s golden tickets. Thoughts. No way @SugaSeanMMA won the first two.

Sterling: “He won RDs 1 &3. Round 1 was the one I wasn’t sure about. I thought he was edging it out til the TD but he got the nod for it. Full breakdown tmw. Interesting scrap. Thought Sean was gonna dominate and control the fight TBH.”

Many of O’Malley’s haters aren’t going to like it, but it certainly feels like he’s right back in the title picture at 135 pounds, although he’ll need to continue making improvements in the wrestling department.
