Randy Couture thinks Chael Sonnen has "great opportunity" to beat Jon Jones

According to Vegas oddsmakers, Chael Sonnen has little to no chance of beating Jon Jones when the two meet next April. Most fans think that Sonnen doesn’t think he even deserves to get a crack at the UFC light heavyweight title considering that he’s done nothing in the division to prove he deserves it. Randy Couture thinks that his former training partner at Team Quest has a pretty damn good shot at scoring a major upset.

“Chael has a great opportunity to win this fight actually,” Couture said on Spike TV’s MMA Uncensored Live. “Technically I see a similar style fight as Anderson Silva. If he wades through him and makes Jon Jones wrestle him the entire fight, I think he can win that.”

This shocking revelation by Couture may not be all that surprising when you consider the source. Couture was given a title shot against Tim Sylvia back in 2007 after taking two years off and moving up from 205 to heavyweight. Most thought that he would be too small to beat Sylvia but Couture systematically took him apart for five rounds and won his 5th title. Couture believes that Sonnen’s wrestling base will be the great equalizer against the seemingly unbeatable Jones.

“He can do it, but he needs that gameplan. He needs to make it a wrestling match, start to finish.”

Is there any merit to what Couture said?
