Nick Diaz Says Everyone Is On Steroids, Especially GSP

Polarizing UFC welterweight Nick Diaz may be awaiting a reduction of his unheard-of five-year suspension from the NSAC for his latest marijuana violation, but that isn’t going to keep him from sounding off on relevant topics in MMA like only he can.

The elder Diaz brother resurfaced at last weekend’s UFC on FOX 17 for his brother Nate’s impressive decision win over Michael Johnson. This week he’s back, sounding off on Chael Sonnen’s You’re Welcome podcast (via MMA Junkie) to suggest that all MMA fighters use steroids as the rumor goes. Diaz told Sonnen he was ‘sure’ most fighters are using PEDs and it is messing with their heads:

“I’m pretty convinced about everybody is on steroids. I mean everybody. Me and my brother, I don’t think (Frankie Edgar) is on steroids, but a lot of these guys, they’re on steroids. That stuff messes with chemicals in your head. I’m just talking (expletive) on everybody right now cause as far as I’m concerned, everybody’s on steroids.”

The Stockton bad boy was most recently seen losing to all-time great Anderson Silva at UFC 183, after which Diaz failed for marijuana (allegedly) and Silva failed for steroids. But he wasn’t here to trash Silva; instead Diaz called out another one of his former opponents, legendary former welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. His reasoning was that St. Pierre wasn’t tested thoroughly enough when he fought him at UFC 158, because he would have failed a real drug test for marijuana:

“Georges St-Pierre was on steroids when I fought him. They didn’t test us because I would have tested positive for sure,” Diaz said. “I thought it was my last fight ever. What do I care? It was almost asking too much to win and not give away that fine.”

Another polarizing and yet oddly real and thought-provoking discussion has arrived from Diaz, and while his message may come through as a bit harsh, steroid use in the UFC continues to be one of the hottest topics after their new and enhanced drug testing program went into full effect this past July.

Do you agree with Diaz? Are most fighters using steroids, and did “GSP” benefit from lax drug testing in the past, or is Diaz simply stirring up the pot like he’s been known to do?
