Jorge Masvidal Rips Colby Covington’s Legacy: “Cop-Calling and Taking Steroids.”
Jorge Masvidal has taken another public shot at Colby Covington, this time framing his rival’s legacy as one fans will remember more for controversy than achievement. The comments came after Covington informed the UFC of his retirement in May, ending his MMA run with a 17-5 record and a resume that included an interim UFC welterweight title and multiple failed bids for the undisputed belt.
Jorge Masvidal Destroys Colby Covington’s legacy
In a recent interview with Snabbare, Masvidal did not soften his stance. He said, “Colby’s legacy? Cop-calling. Accusing people of steroids while he’s taking steroids. Just a projecting, gaslighting hoe. He always talked about other fighters to make it to the top or even get his name mentioned, with this whole country thing, just not to get fired from a job.”
Masvidal kept going and tied that view to the way he believes Covington fought inside the cage. He added, “I think people are going to remember that lameness. Then when he actually fought, you saw why, because he would put all his work and effort into just holding your leg as hard as he could. Not trying to advance to finish you. Not trying to hit you with elbows. Then if it was on the feet, pillow hands, not even trying to fight. I think his legacy is going to be something forgotten pretty soon.”
The latest blast lands in a rivalry that has stayed hot long after the two stopped being teammates and friends. Their feud already produced one of the UFC’s most personal grudge matches at UFC 272 in March 2022, where Covington beat Masvidal by unanimous decision, and it later spilled outside the cage with Masvidal facing a criminal case tied to an alleged Miami altercation.

Masvidal’s remarks also connect to a line of tension that has followed the pair for years. In 2023, Covington publicly accused Masvidal of stepping away from competition to use steroids outside the testing pool, and Masvidal’s new interview appears to answer that charge directly while reviving his long-running criticism that Covington built attention through attacks on other fighters and political theater.

Even with Masvidal dismissing Covington’s place in the sport, Covington’s record gives a more complete picture of why his name stayed relevant for so long. He retired as a former interim champion, remained a fixture near the top of the welterweight division for years, and was still widely viewed as one of the division’s most polarizing figures when UFC officials confirmed his retirement.
