Jake Paul Denies That Tyron Woodley Rematch Was PPV Mess

Jake Paul

Jake Paul is hitting back at industry insiders who say that the recent Tyron Woodley boxing rematch was a ‘swing-and-miss’ when it comes to pay-per-view sales.

Paul defeated Woodley via sixth-round knockout in their highly-anticipated rematch, after Woodley stepped up on short notice to fill in for the injured Tommy Fury. That may be a financial mistake to go forward with the event, as early rumors had PPV sales failing to eclipse 65,000.

Despite the rumors, Paul shut them down during a recent post on his Twitter page.

“The PPV number rumors are bulls***,” Paul said. “First fight with Woodley we sold 500k-plus. Numbers for this one are still rolling in but still looking positive. Not my best business night. But remember: everyone wanted to see me versus Fury and that’s what we sold. Shoutout to Showtime for riding with me and all the fighters on the card and Tyron for not being a b**** like most of these ‘fighters’ are.”

It’s unclear what could be next for Paul and his team, but the controversial YouTuber turned boxer has made it clear that he wants to take some time off. Paul fought three times in 2021, including against Woodley and former UFC welterweight Ben Askren.

For now, it appears Paul will turn to his role as a promoter with his Most Valuable Promotions platform. He’s currently on a women’s boxing superfight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, who co-headlined his last two fights against Woodley.

PPV numbers haven’t been officially released, but the initial rumors are certainly alarming for Paul’s camp. It’ll be interesting to see when the official statistics are released to the public, and fans and critics of Paul can make up their minds.
