Ilia Topuria will “cancel [Justin Gaethje’s] career on the spot” says fellow ex-BMF champ
Ilia Topuria would emphatically emerge victorious over newly minted UFC interim lightweight champ and ex BMF champ Justin Gaethje according to someone else interwoven within that BMF championship lineage. The combatant in question is the inaugural BMF titleholder, Jorge Masvidal.
Gamebred’ spoke about Gaethje’s chances against Topuria now that the former has become the first ever two time interim champ in UFC history after besting Paddy Pimblett in the UFC 324 headliner. Jorge Masvidal discussed this on his podcast Death Row MMA, as Masvidal said [via MMA Junkie],
“It’s a good thing Paddy didn’t win, because if he did, he was going to get torched by Ilia. I think Gaethje just retires and rides off to the sunset because he don’t want to see Ilia. I think both these guys are just levels below Ilia, and that fight really showed it all. On the wrestling, on the striking, on the defense, the offense. I think Ilia is on a whole other planet when it comes to these guys.”
“And hopefully they give him Justin Gaethje so he can get another guy and do him like a launcher, and he’s going to fold him. Ilia’s at another speed, another type of athlete. Gaethje always has the same mistakes he’s always made. He’s lunging in, getting hit with those rights. Ilia does the same thing, he’s going to cancel his career on the spot. I think Ilia gets Gaethje out of there Round 1.”
Ilia Topuria is massive favorite in targeted Justin Gaethje UFC title unification bout
Ilia Topuria versus Justin Gaethje has the former as a massive betting favorite over the latter in a potential prizefight, per a line from Betonline.ag. The reigning UFC lightweight champion is positioned at -600 which means he is a 6 to 1 betting favorite over Gaethje to emerge as undisputed champion at 155 pounds.
Gaethje is positioned at +400 and with Topuria teasing an April or June return, albeit teases without any official confirmation from the promotion, it will be curious to see when the bout with ‘El Matador’ and the 4 to 1 betting underdog gets booked.
