Ilia Topuria Breaks Silence After First Career Loss, Sends Dangerous Warning to Justin Gaethje
Ilia Topuria has issued a statement after being dismantled by Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250.
Gaethje dethroned Topuria earlier tonight by Round 4 TKO (corner stoppage) and became the undisputed UFC lightweight champion. The 37-year-old from the very first round had the perfect game plan chalked up to snatch Topuria’s title and undefeated record.
“The Highlight” had a strong opening round during which he used his sharp jab, marched forward, and landed some uppercuts and high kicks.
As the rounds progressed, Topuria’s face started to look like a horror movie.

Gaethje left Topuria in a complete mess. “El Matador” slowed down after three rounds and also had problems seeing clearly. “The Highlight” ended Round 4 of the title unification clash with a crushing knee to the body as “El Matador” was working his way back to his feet.
As both fighters went to their respective stools for the one-minute break between rounds, the Georgian-Spaniard’s corner decided to stop the fight due to the amount of damage the American had inflicted around Topuria’s eyes.

After getting dethroned, “El Matador” was swiftly sent to the hospital, and sources have revealed that he’s suffered a small orbital fracture for which he will not need to undergo surgery.
On Instagram, Ilia Topuria uploaded his post-loss statement. The 29-year-old fighter congratulated Justin Gaethje and then discussed with fans what went wrong at the White House. He wrote:
“Justin, congratulations. You said you’d leave your mark on my face… and you did. You took the sight from my right eye in the first round, and by the end of the second, from my left too. No excuses. I had one of the best camps of my life. I came in sharp, prepared, and ready. Last night was your night. That’s the nature of this game. Glory and pain walk side by side. I’ll heal. I’ll rest. And I’ll return stronger, wiser, and far more dangerous.”
Lastly, Topuria also sent a message to “The Highlight.”
“And trust me… this story between us is far from over. We will have our rematch.”
