Seeking to build on the momentum of his submission win over Josh Burkman at May’s UFC 187, No. 7-ranked UFC welterweight Dong Hyun Kim picked up his second straight finish win over Dominic Waters in the co-main event of today’s (Sat., November 28, 2015) UFC Fight Night 79 from Seoul, South Korea, after his original opponent Jorge Masvidal replaced Thiago Alves against Benson Henderson in the main event.
A massive betting favorite at -750, “Stun Gun” used his wrestling as most predicted to ground the lesser-seasoned Waters, stifling him on the mat with a crucifix and ground shots that forced the ref rto stop the action at 3:11 into the first round.
After securing a fifth win in his last six, Korean home favorite Kim said he understood that his original and more high-profile bout with Masvidal falling apart is just an unfortunate result of fighting at certain times.
