Javid Basharat Survives Second-Round Scare to Defeat Short-Notice Replacement – UFC Vegas 113 Highlights
Javid Basharat earned a hard-fought victory over short-notice replacement Gianni Vazquez at UFC Vegas 113 on Saturday.
Basharat nearly ended things in the opening round after cracking Vazquez with a nasty right hand. To his credit, Vazquez weathered the ensuing storm and made it to the second round, where he would start to turn the tide.
Less than two minutes into the second, Vazquez answered back with a booming right of his own that rocked Basharat. Vazquez caught his man with another right that momentarily put Basharat on the mat. That prompted ‘The Snow Leopard’ to shoot for a desperation takedown, which he ultimately got.
Once on the mat, Basharat spent most of his time defending heel hook attempts from Vazquez, though he ultimately ended the round on top.
Basharat picked up right where he left off in the second, securing top control before transitioning to Vazquez’s back. With the clock ticking down, Vazquez fought his way up and ended the round dropping bombs on Basharat.
Unfortunately for Vazquez, the late-fight flurry wasn’t enough to sway the scorecards in his favor.
