Former UFC Champ Won’t Fight at White House, Disappointed
A former UFC champion feels he won’t get the chance to fight on the South Lawn of the White House.
Meanwhile, Dana White has confirmed that matchmaking for the June 14 mega event has wrapped up, and they have two options to choose from. White didn’t unveil any further details about the same.
As rumored, the UFC White House card is expected to be headlined by reigning lightweight champion Ilia Topuria and current and two-time interim titleholder Justin Gaethje, who would square off in a title unification bout.
In addition, hotshots such as Conor McGregor, Jon Jones, Alex Pereira, Michael Chandler, and several other big names are also rumored to feature on the historic card. This once-in-a-lifetime event is expected to feature just six to seven fights, and most of the bouts could be championship bouts.
Sean O’Malley thinks he won’t be a part of the UFC White House card
Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, who returned to winning ways earlier this year at UFC 324, had expressed interest in fighting at the White House.
Suga” previously called out current and two-time bantamweight kingpin Petr Yan for a rematch. However, Yan is currently on the sidelines after he had lower back surgery and is expected to return after 2-4 months.
When “No Mercy” returns, he will most likely defend his title against Merab Dvalishvili in a rematch to settle their trilogy. Hence, “Suga” had also shown interest in fighting former UFC title challenger Cory Sandhagen. But so far, he has not gotten a call from the UFC brass regarding the White House event. In a recent YouTube video on his channel, he said:
“I haven’t got a call. I haven’t got a jingle. I’ve heard nothing. Suga Show might not be at the White House. It’s still so far out. It’s still enough out.”
