Dong Hyun Kim says 90% of the UFC is on steroids

Dong Hyun Kim got back into the win column at UFC Macao, using his trademark wrestling to notch a decision win over Paulo Thiago. However the fight was described as less than exciting, and Kim sits with a 2-2 in his last four UFC bouts. Having defeated both Sean Pierson and Thiago via decision, he more notably got TKOed by both Demian Maia and Carlos Condit. Now he is seemingly looking to stir some controversy up. ‘Stun Gun’ has come out and estimated that 90% of the fighters in the UFC are on steroids in an interview via South Korean site MFight:

“While a lot of people believe doping tests work, just like a breathalyzer test you can get away with it by just controlling timing. Most of the steroids user just cycle and get by the tests. It’s almost like other athletes look down on you as an idiot if you don’t do steroids. It’s like non-users are bicyclists while steroid users are racing with motorcycles. But I am one of those “idiots” that don’t use performance enhancers. I would say 90% of UFC fighters use performance enhancers.”

This is obviously an issue that has come up endlessly in recent MMA talk, but 90% has to be the highest proclamation we’ve ever seen by a fighter. Perhaps Kim is just trying to get his name more recognizable with some controversial steroid talk. Maybe he truly believes in being an all-natural fighter. With all of the failed drug tests and TRT therapetuic use exemptions, are PEDs becoming just a necessary evil of MMA? Or will they ultimately hinder the sport’s development as a truly legitimate athletic competition?
