Dustin Poirier: Conor McGregor Won’t Stand-and-Bang With Max Holloway
Dustin Poirier believes Conor McGregor, who is returning to the octagon after five years, will not be able to stand and bang with Max Holloway at UFC 329 if the bout goes all 5 rounds and “Blessed” points down in the last 10 seconds of the final stanza.
Holloway, who calls himself the best boxer in the UFC, also invited Poirier to stand and trade in the center of the octagon during Poirier’s retirement fight. “The Diamond” initially accepted the challenge but soon realized that Holloway was getting the better of him and could knock him out cold. Not wanting to end up like Justin Gaethje, Poirier quickly tied Holloway up in the clinch.
Now, “The Diamond,” who has shared the octagon three times each with Holloway and the Irishman, believes McGregor won’t be in the best physical shape to accept Holloway’s call to action and trade recklessly. On the Deep Waters podcast, he said:
“If it does go all five and there is a point down in the last ten seconds, I don’t think Conor is going to be in physical shape to throw down with Max like that. Because Max is still fast at the end of the fight, man.”

Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier also took digs at Conor McGregor during the same sitdown posted above. McGregor has said that before his return bout, he is doing all it takes to get back to winning ways on July 11 and has even vowed to eat, sleep, train, and live in the gym. Reacting to the Dubliner’s intense training schedule before UFC 329, Jorge Masvidal quipped:
“I don’t care. You can sleep in a garage every day. It doesn’t make you a car.”
“Gamebred” also added that Max Holloway, who has fought the best fighters in the world in the last few years, will ‘smoke’ Conor McGregor at UFC 329.
Meanwhile, Poirier quipped:
“Speaking of sleeping, Conor McGregor, I put you to sleep in Abu Dhabi, bud. Sleepy Mac.”
