Darren Till Breaks Silence Over Taxi Incident In Tenerife

Darren Till

Darren Till has shared details on the incident that landed him in jail a few months ago.

The title contender shared his side of the story, in which he’s accused of stealing a taxi and trashing a hotel, while doing a recent interview with MMA Junkie:

“Truthfully and honestly, we went on a lad’s birthday and we booked it for the while. We were gone for two days and we were out there having a good time. It’s a nice place. Then we were in the hotel, and there were these other guys in the room. And we weren’t having trouble, but just a little bother broke out – not fights and whatnot.

Obviously, the hotel didn’t get trashed. There was no criminal damage. But things got thrown and whatever. I won’t name no names, but a taxi was not stolen – well, it was stolen and drove around the block a few times. I went (to) the scene. I was somewhere else. I had left the hotel, as well.

Then when the police were rounding everyone up, they (saw) me. Straight away, the police was like, ‘Darren Till.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah,’ and I knew what was going on. I was like, ‘It’s all going to fall on me.’

Till was arrested by officers in Tenerife back in April. The island is the largest in the Canary Islands chain off the northwest coast of Africa. Till was arrested alongside four other people for allegedly trashing a hotel. The group then sped off in a taxi while the cab’s driver loaded their luggage into the trunk, according to the police report.

The group was kicked out of one hotel for breaking furniture and emptying out fire extinguishers. They later attempted to get another hotel room but were turned down. As a result, Till had been fined more than £700 by a Spanish court.

Till, along with the other men, admitted wrongdoing as part of a plea deal. They were also ordered to pay more than £8,500 in compensation to the hotel they vandalized.
