Dana White: UFC women’s division “absolutely going to happen”

Remember when Dana White stated that he saw no place for women in the UFC? Yeah, that was before Ronda Rousey. Today, the UFC President is singing a different song and has not only suggested that he’s warming up to the idea of a women’s division, he’s determined to bring it to the UFC sooner rather than later.

“It’s absolutely going to happen,” White said to Sports Illustrated. It’s no secret that White has become a huge fan of Ronda Rousey over the past couple of years. However, his biggest concern was making sure there was depth in a women’s division before bringing it to the UFC. It seems that White has now looked past that obstacle and sees the value in bringing a star like Rousey into the UFC. The only issue now is that Rousey still has three fights under her current Strikeforce contract. Nevertheless, White hasn’t set a timetable for when the women’s division will debut in the UFC.

“It could happen tomorrow (or) it could happen a year from now,” White said. “The point is I’m committed to this.”
