Dana White Sees Shades of Conor McGregor in Paddy Pimblett

Conor McGregor, Paddy Pimblett

Dana White recently compared Paddy Pimblett to UFC’s biggest star, Conor McGregor. While likening the Brit to the Irishman, White said the situation mirrors McGregor’s early run in the UFC.

He recalled how the Dubliner was widely doubted when he first arrived, with many convinced he would lose, only for ‘The Notorious’ to prove them all wrong.

Pimblett, who was fast-tracked to a title shot, remains undefeated in the UFC and boasts wins over Michael Chandler, Bobby Green, and Tony Ferguson, among others. Later this week, at UFC 324, ‘The Baddy’ will take on Justin Gaethje for the interim 155-pound championship.

While some believe Gaethje is past his prime and will be easy work for Pimblett, UFC veterans, including Dustin Poirier, believe Pimblett won’t be able to get past ‘The Highlight.’ The Liverpudlians’ past wins have not convinced ‘The Diamond’ that ‘The Baddy’ is a top-tier lightweight.

On UFC 324 fight week, White appeared in an interview with TMZ Sports, where he confessed that Pimblett reminds him of McGregor:

“He reminds me of the Conor McGregor story. He came in with this great personality and was always overlooked. Every time he fought, everybody believed he was going to lose, and Paddy has been that guy — even more so than Conor McGregor.”

Dana White shuts down Conor McGregor vs. Jorge Masvidal fight rumors

Earlier this week, Dana White crushed Michael Chandler’s hopes of fighting Conor McGregor. After that bout fell out, former UFC BMF kingpin Jorge Masvidal came into the picture and claimed that he’s preparing for something big, hinting at a potential showdown with McGregor on the White House Card.
