“Crying Like a Little Girl”: The Untold Drama Behind Logan and Jake Paul’s Journey – From a Former Boxing Champ
Two YouTube personalities, Logan and Jake Paul, turned boxing curiosities once sat down with a heavyweight champion who felt compelled to offer them some unsolicited wisdom. Ahead of this weekend’s Anthony Joshua showdown, the former heavyweight boxing champ opened up.
Why Jake Paul Was Crying
Shannon Briggs sits in a unique position in modern boxing, having witnessed the unlikely rise of two YouTube personalities who flipped the script on his own predictions.
Speaking to Bloody Elbow, the former heavyweight champion opened up about the Paul brothers’ divergent careers and what lies ahead for Jake as he prepares for heavyweight titleholder Anthony Joshua. When the conversation turned to first impressions, Briggs spoke candidly about his initial assessment of Logan and Jake Paul, praising both but with a particular focus on the older brother’s potential.
“I was just helping them out, and I thought that both were very, very good,” Briggs explained. What made the interaction memorable was what he told them during a visit to Logan’s house, a prediction that seemed certain at the time. “I thought that Jake would fight Mayweather one day and that Logan would fight Tyson, and it happened the opposite way,” Briggs noted.
Life in boxing rarely follows predictions, though, and the brothers’ careers took an unexpected turn. In June 2021, Logan fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition match that went the distance, while Jake squared off against Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in November 2024.
Briggs acknowledged tension that emerged between them, particularly around Logan’s loss to KSI. “We fell out a little bit, but that was all because Jake was crying like a little girl that his brother lost,” Briggs reflected. While he understood Jake’s frustration, the legendary boxer offered his own analysis of Logan’s performance.

“His brother, I think, got a little stage fright when it came to KSI in that fight, and I was shocked too, because I know how great he trained in the gym,” Briggs said. “You know what they say, what you do in the gym sometimes doesn’t translate to the fight, so that’s what happened,” Briggs added. Logan ultimately lost to KSI by split decision in November 2019 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
“I thought that Jake was a little upset, which is understandable, but he came at the wrong person,” Briggs stated, adding that he chose to let it slide. “I gave him a pass,” he said simply. Water under the bridge, it seemed. What mattered more to Briggs was the bigger picture, both brothers had accomplished something unprecedented. “But moving forward, they did great, they’re doing great,” he acknowledged.
Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua
Now, as Jake prepares for his biggest challenge yet, Briggs is looking forward. Scheduled for December 19, 2025, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Jake will face Anthony Joshua in a heavyweight bout officially billed as “Judgment Day”. The matchup represents a significant step up in competition for Paul, who enters with a 12-1 professional record, including seven knockouts. Joshua, meanwhile, is returning after a year-long layoff following a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. The contest will consist of eight three-minute rounds using 10-ounce gloves.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him fight Joshua,” Briggs said. Despite the friction and the reversed predictions, he remains invested in Jake Paul’s journey. Whether Paul can overcome the former two-time heavyweight champion remains one of boxing’s most intriguing questions, and if nothing else, Briggs has learned not to rule out the unexpected when it comes to the Paul brothers.
