Conor McGregor Explains Why 5 Years Away From The Octagon Will Be His Biggest Advantage at UFC 329

Conor McGregor believes his five-year hiatus from fighting will be a key factor in securing victory in his comeback bout.

The former UFC double champion returns to the octagon next month in the main event of UFC 329 to run it back with Max Holloway, whom he previously beat in 2013 by unanimous decision.

The Notorious” suffered a drastic leg injury in 2021 during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier. Following recovery and rehabilitation, he served as head coach opposite Michael Chandler on The Ultimate Fighter in 2023. In 2024, he and “Iron” were going to lock horns in the main event of UFC 303. However, McGregor had to withdraw from the bout due to a toe injury.

Next month at UFC 329, Conor McGregor believes he will be the fresher fighter due to his five-year hiatus. The Irishman feels all this time spent away from the octagon has allowed him to recover fully, and he is now entering his prime. During an interview with Nate Burleson, the 37-year-old said:

“I look at my rest period that I have had, whereas I look at other competitors in the space, including my opponent [Max Holloway]. I feel a lot more fresher than these opponents. I’ve had my time of rest, and I feel I’m coming into my prime now. I am only entering my prime, and it is now and forever.”

McGregor believes his 2021 catastrophic leg injury will bring “longevity” to his fighting career. During the same sitdown, he added:

“I always say, ‘An injury is not just a process of recovery, it’s a process of discovery.’ You uncover a lot about yourself. You uncover a lot about your frame, body, movements, and mechanics… Everything happens for a reason. This allowed me to carry on with my career, and it will bring longevity to my career.”

Conor McGregor predicts “demolition” against Max Holloway at UFC 329

During the same interview with Nate Burleson, Conor McGregor opined that even an evolved version of Max Holloway is not enough to beat him. The Irishman said he’s planning on “absolute demolition” on July 11 and has predicted a “spectacular” finish.
