VIDEO | Chris Roman KO’d By Illegal Knee Before Proposing To Roxanne Modafferi

Chris Roman

Chris Roman had an eventful Friday night at Titan FC 73.

The featherweight fighter, who boasts a 3-3 professional MMA record, was in action on the card against Asa Ten Pow (1-0).

Roman’s match-up was over before it really began when 20 seconds into the bout, he shot for his opponents’ legs. As he was on the ground working on his takedown, Ten Pow uncorked an illegal knee that knocked Roman out cold. As he slumped to the floor the commentators speculated about if he was faking before the fight was ultimately ruled a no-contest.

Post-fight, Roman quickly rallied to turn his bad night at the office into the best night of his life when he proposed to his girlfriend, who happens to be UFC veteran and WMMA pioneer, Roxanne Modafferi. Of course, she said yes and the two celebrated in the cage before Modafferi took to social media to break the good news to her fans.

“My boyfriend took an illegal knee at 21 seconds into the fight and it got called a no-contest,” Modafferi wrote on Instagram. “I’m sad for Chris that he didn’t get as much fight time…. but then HE PROPOSED! 彼氏はプロポーズした!I went “omg are you okay… Um YES!!” I love you for the rest of our lives, Chris Roman!! The fight result sucked but it was kinda epic you proposed on a national broadcast… #engaged #proposal @christhegladi8rroman”

Modafferi is set to compete in the final fight of her storied MMA career when she takes on Casey O’Neill at UFC 271 on February 12. O’Neill is a highly fancied 8-0 prospect who will be favourtie going into the fight but Modafferi is known for causing upsets having previously bounced Maycee Barber and Antonina Shevchenko from the ranks of the unbeaten.
