Bobby Green To Anthony Pettis: ‘You Did Nothing Wrong, You Got Played Bro’

Most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans and media were downright shocked when Rafael dos Anjos dethroned former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis with a five round domination in the main event of March 14’s UFC 185 from Dallas, Texas.

Even though dos Anjos was on a hot streak with three straight wins over Nate Diaz, Benson Henderson, and Jason High, he still wasn’t given much of a chance against MMA’s next supposed superstar “Showtime”.

When he dismantled Pettis in absolutely all facets of the game, many were quick to assume dos Anjos was using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), especially considering it was later revealed that he went into the fight with a torn MCL and a broken nose.

“RDA” passed his post-fight drug test at the event (there were no random pre-fight tests for the card), which should have cleared his name. But some still believe that dos Anjos was using steroids nonetheless, and the most vocal critic has been no. 11-ranked lightweight Bobby Green. “King” recently spoke up to B.J. Penn Radio to blatantly accuse the new champion of PED use, noting that Pettis did nothing wrong:

“Let me point this fact out for you real quick. I think he hurt his MCL or ACL two weeks before the fight, who does that and still goes into the fight, fights their a*s off, kicks and knees and punches like no problem?

“This guy’s got super better. His cardio’s gotten better, his chin’s gotten better and like everything, something’s going on. Did you hear Anthony [Pettis]? He was like ‘I don’t know what happened, I don’t know what went wrong, I thought everything was great. Camp went great, I can’t figure out what I did wrong.’ You didn’t do nothing wrong Anth, you didn’t do nothing wrong, you just don’t know what happened because you got bamboozled, you got played. You got played bro. That’s the way it is. Look at him, look at your body; look at his body.”

According to Green, he’s seen the transformation in dos Anjos, and he also felt it when he trained with him briefly. Because of that experience, Green likened dos Anjos to disgraced baseball legend Barry Bonds:

“You’ve got to look at the writing on the wall for some of these guys. Look at their bodies. This guy goes five rounds non-stop, takes every shot like nothing, come on now. I sparred with him personally, I felt it. I was like there’s something here. I felt it, I was like ok, there’s something a little bit different here.

I knew what was going to happen to Anth, I knew what was going to happen. I’m not even attacking him, I’m just going to let it be known that he’s a great fighter, I saw his talents, I saw him coming. But the point is that it looks a little funny to me, that’s all I’m saying. It’s [like] how Barry Bonds started hitting home runs.”

For his part, dos Anjos issued a response to Combate (via Bloody Elbow) yesterday (April 15, 2015) accusing Green of being a fan in person and then trashing his good name to build up his own after he became champion:

“People want to talk and be in the spotlight, nobody wants to give credit. Even though my post-fight test came back clean, people still want to talk about it and not value what I conquered. You have to learn how to deal with that. People just like to badmouth.

“Bobby Green can think whatever he wants, but next time I train with him, I won’t take it easy like I did before,” he said. “He was always nice and humble to me before, telling me he was a huge fan and now he does this? I guess he wants to be noticed. I only met him once, only trained with him once, he’s not my friend or anything to me. It’s a frustrated attempt to promote himself. Everybody now wants to try something. But you can’t only talk, you have to work. If your star doesn’t shine don’t try and extinguish mine.”

It seems as if the PED talk is still following dos Anjos around even after he passed his drug test. Do you believe that he used PEDs to beat Pettis, or is his recent hot streak a sheer byproduct of hard work alone?
