BKB 56’s LT Nelson “I Am The Pound-For-Pound King of Bare Knuckle”

LT Nelson

LT Nelson battles Serob Minasyan at BKB 56 on July 18th in Los Angeles. As the two division BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing titleholder touched upon how he is doing, LT Nelson said [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“Excited to perform and throw down at another weight class, man. It’s my love just to be an entertainer and entertain. So, I just can’t wait to do what I do.”

With ‘Smash’ Nelson being the super middleweight and middleweight champion in BKB, he is now preparing to campaign in a third weight class for more hardware. When asked if there were particular amendments made to get down to super welterweight for this clash here in California, LT Nelson stated [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“No, man, I’m like always around the same. Actually when I first came to Bare Knuckle I wanted to fight at ’55 and for some reason I got a fight at ’65 then I got fights at ’60. Then the rest of the fights at ’65 then or super middleweight, middleweight, and whatnot. I used to fight at the super welterweight weight class in Glory Kickboxing, my old; I’ve got a lot of fights heavier than that as well. But, my normal weight class was normally 155 lbs.”

“So, I’m excited to go back down and show people that I weighed in underweight for most of my other fights. Not because I was cutting too much weight or something. Just because I don’t walk around that heavy. Then I like to fast for 24 hours before my weigh-ins and I naturally just lose that weight. So it’s; I mean it’ll be a couple more pounds than normal than I have to lose, but it’s nothing crazy at all for me.”

“I’m doing the same old thing. Just changing up my training style a bit for Serob and how he is. Just trying to trying to just make my own style and my own way better, more technically sound and make less mistakes every time I throw down, man.”

Touching on the machinations of the matchup with Minasyan that awaits him on Saturday night, LT Nelson quipped [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“He’s shorter but he looks compact and obviously he’s at that weight class. So he’s like not a small, little dude. He’s still a weight class I’m fighting in, You know what I’m saying? So, he’s a compact [guy] and a lot of those compact, smaller dudes are down and especially from other countries too. They’re down to throw bombs and they’re down to get in wars and they’re dangerous, man. But I feel like a lot of people especially in this bare knuckle game are dangerous.”

“It doesn’t matter this and that, but we’re just going to stay away from trying to like rush into anything. You know what I’m saying? I control the situation. I control the fights and I adjust to the fights. So, I’m going to do that accordingly… I’m going to be smarter, more technically sound, and draw some things out. Right off that first belt, we’re going to start touching and see where the fight takes us.”

“Man, we always have a game plan in terms of I’m in shape. I always have a game plan in terms of I’m in shape and I have cardio and this and that. But we just slowly like tighten things up and change things up according to the opponent. Serob’s dangerous, a dangerous man and we’re going to not take him lightly. But I’m going for that knockout like always but we’re prepared for war.”

LT Nelson: “I keep on building my legacy” at BKB 56

While already inducted into the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame, ‘Smash’ still has big goals, which were touched on when LT Nelson said [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“I keep on building my legacy. This is another way for me to show and cement. Show people that I am the pound-for-pound king of bare knuckle. I’m about to take on my third weight class and not only take it on, I’m going to take it over and I’m going to get that belt.”

Within that context, when asked if BKB has expressly stated if this contest over the weekend is a title eliminator, LT Nelson stated [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“Yes. I mean as they have been talking to me, this is 100%. They were pretty much saying like, “Let me get my feet wet at 154 lbs before they give me the title shot.” Just sort of like maybe to make it seem more okay for the other people in that division or this or that. Maybe to show people that I can make that weight. I’m not just being a certain type of way. Make the weight and perform amazingly well. Then next fight I’m gonna go smash and get my third world title.”
