Ben Askren thinks that once he steps inside of the Octagon, he’ll make his next opponent feel hopeless.

The former ONE welterweight champion is slated to meet former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at Saturday’s UFC 235 pay-per-view event. This marks a big bout for Askren as it will be his promotional debut. It’s also the biggest match that he’s been part of in recent memory.

Askren believes that the first opening minutes will be important in this fight as Lawler is dangerous in the beginning of the fight. However, once he gets his hands on the former UFC welterweight champion then it’s all over for him.

“I think the opening minutes are critical because Robbie is a fighter who can do a lot of damage quick. He’s known to come out fast and he fights in sprints,” Askren told MMAjunkie. “So coming out and establishing the way I want the fight to be fought is super important.

“I think it’s about me imposing my will. Closing distance, not taking big punches and getting a hold of him. It’s as simple as that. Once I get ahold of him, man, I don’t think he’s got much of a hope.”

The UFC 235 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
