Bellator 196 Results: Benson Henderson Submits Roger Huerta

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, April 6, 2018) will come in the form of Bellator 196. Headlining the card are Benson Henderson and Roger Huerta, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Benson Henderson and Roger Huerta meet in a lightweight bout in the main event. In round 1, Henderson caught a body kick and landed a big right hand. Henderson  with a head kick and a right hand that hurt Huerta. Henderson took him down in the middle of the round. Huerta was bleeding from his right temple. Huerta was able to get back to his feet and they clinched. Henderson  was trying to get a takedown but kept getting stuffed. Huerta took him down with three minutes to go. Henderson got back to his feet. In round 2, Henderson tripped him right out of the gate but Huerta got back to his feet and Henderson locked in the guillotine choke for the win.

Adam Borics and Manuel Gaxhja meet in a featherweight bout in the co-main event. In round 1, a wild pace to kick things off. Borics dropped him and took him down. Borics got half guard and rained down strikes from top position to end the round. In round 2, Borics stayed on him and Gaxja was trying to get into his grove and build his momentum. Borics KO’d him with a perfect flying knee and that was a wrap.

Denise Kielholtz vs. Lena Ovchynnikova is next in a women’s flyweight bout. In round 1, Kielholtz was able to clinch and take her down just a minute into the round. Ovchynnikova was able to get back to her feet and Kielholtz dropped her with a right hand but Ovchynnikova got back up quickly. In round 2, Kielholtz walked her down and kept the pressure on her. They exchanged leg kicks and it turned into a kickboxing bout. Ovchynnikova scored a takedown late in the round but Kielholtz got back to her feet. In round 3, this was very similar to the second round as they kept striking and continued a solid pace. For the last seconds of the round, they had a wild exchange with Kielholtz taking her down to end the round and win the fight.

Giorgio Belsanti vs. Brian Moore is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Moore dropped him with a right hand after a wild exchange. Moore got on top in half guard. Belsanti regrouped after being rocked. Moore was able to lock in the guillotine choke for the win.

Opening the main card on Spike TV is Ion Pascu vs. Ed Ruth in a catchweight bout. In round 1, they trade strikes early with Ruth pressing forward. Pascu was tagging him with jabs but Ruth didn’t back down. Ruth kept his hands down, which was a mistake. Ruth slipped but got up and took him down with a single leg. He got on top and rained down some strikes from half guard. Pascu got back to his feet near the end of the round. In round 2, they kept the action on its feet for the majority of the round with both fighters getting their stuff in. Ruth started to increase the pace and volume with Pascu covering up more. Ruth had a lot of confidence as he had his hands low the whole time. Truth tripped him late in the round and rained down more strikes to end the round. In round 3, Ruth took him down right out of the gate and got guard but Pascu went for a guillotine choke. Truth was able to get out of it and landed some more strikes. Ruth dominated this round and won the fight by decision.
