Bellator 174 Results: Budd Finishes Coenen To Become Featherweight Champion

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, March 3rd, 2017) will come in the form of Bellator 174. Headlining the card are Marloes Coenen and Julia Budd, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Marloes Coenen and Julia Budd meet in a female featherweight title bout in the main event. In round 1, after having a feeling out process, Budd clinched and slammed her down to the ground inside the first minute of the round. Budd got guard and worked her over with strikes. Coenen went for a triangle off her back but couldn’t get it. Budd stayed in guard to end the round. In round 2, Budd scored a takedown begin the round and got side control where she landed elbows. Budd did this for the entire round. In round 3, Budd clinched with her and then her down again within the first minute of the round. Buss worked her over with strikes and elbows from guard. In round 4, Budd landed a body slam then got full mount and assaulted her with strikes and elbows to finish the fight.

Brandon Girtz and Fernando Gonzalez meet in a welterweight bout in the co-main event. In round 1, Girtz was throwing haymakers early. Girtz landed a right hand then a trip takedown inside the first minute. Gonzalez locked in a guillotine but Girts got out of it. Gonzalez scrambled to his feet. Girtz went for a takedown halfway through the round but Gonzalez stuffed it. They exchanged to end the round. In round 2, Girtz scored a takedown to open the round and got half guard. Gonzalez got up but Girtz scored a takedown and got side control and worked him over with strikes. Halfway through the round, Gonzalez scrambled back to his feet.Girtz scored a double leg takedown with under three minutes to go. However, Gonzalez scrambled back to his feet. They exchanged to end the round. In round 3, Girtz was kicked in the nuts to begin the round. Girtz scored a takedown early into the round but couldn’t keep Gonzalez grounded. Gonzalez fired up in this round and started to land some big uppercuts and solid jabs. Girtz scored a takedown with a minute to go but Gonzalez got back to his feet once more. Gonzalez picked up the decision win. 

Justin Wren vs. Roman Pizzolato is next in a heavyweight bout. Pizzolato comes out and clinches with Wren but Wren slams him down in seconds. Wren keeps him down and lands knee strikes to the body of Pizzolato. Pizzolato got up but Wren slammed him back down and rained down strikes. Wren got full mount and landed a series of elbow strikes. Wren went for an arm triangle from side control and got the win.

Opening the main card on Spike TV is Rafael Lovato, Jr. vs. Charles Hackmann in a middleweight bout. Lovato came and landed a huge head kick then some knee strikes followed by strikes to end this one.
