UFC 125er Stewart Nicoll Released from the Promotion

UFC flyweight Stewart Nicoll has been released from the UFC, per sources. The announcement comes after Nicoll lost a unanimous decision to Alden Coria in Oklahoma City last month.

Unfortunately for Stewart Nicoll, the news does not come as much of a surprise. Nicoll went winless in all four of his Octagon appearances.

The Australian native first signed with the promotion in August 2024, where he made his UFC debut in his home country on the prelims of UFC 305: Du Plessis vs. Adesanya. However, his debut did not go according to plan, as Nicoll was submitted by Jesus Aguilar via guillotine midway through the opening round.

After a year away from the cage, Nicoll returned to action, this time on the road, where he faced Lucas Rocha in Brazil last October. Rocha dominated the contest, earning a 30-27 unanimous decision victory.

In April of this year, Nicoll fell victim to the surging Alessandro Costa, who finished him with a liver shot at the end of the second round.

Nicoll’s best performance actually came in his most recent loss against Alden Coria. Entering the fight as a massive +750 underdog, Nicoll gave Coria his toughest test to date in the UFC, even winning the second round on one judge’s scorecard. However, “Kakamora” was ultimately not handed the decision that night in OKC.

Nicoll entered the UFC undefeated at 8-0, but now departs the promotion with an 8-4 professional record after going 0-4 under the UFC banner. He competed for Australia’s Beatdown Promotions, where he had knocked out four consecutive opponents before earning his opportunity with the UFC.

It will be interesting to see where Stewart Nicoll goes next and whether he can work his way back to the UFC in the future.
