Bellator 150 Results: Kongo Edges Out Queiroz

Bellator150Post

It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, February 26, 2016) will come in the form of Bellator 150. Headlining the card are Cheick Kongo and Vinicius Queiroz, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Cheick Kongo (24-10-2) and Vinicius Queiroz (8-4) met in a heavyweight bout in the main event. Kongo fought smart in this fight, but it didn’t exactly make for the most exciting fight in the world. Kongo easily won the first-round, but Queiroz dominated the second round with a mid-round takedown and ground and pound. The third round was very close with both fighters having their moments. The judges awarded Kongo the split decision victory.

David Rickels (16-5, 1 NC) and Bobby Cooper (12-6) met in a lightweight bout. This one did not last long. Rickels landed a series of rights in the first-round and Cooper dropped. Rickels poured on the strikes until “Big” John McCarthy stepped him and stopped the fight.

Kendall Grove (23-15) and Francisco France (13-4-1) met in a middleweight bout. After a lackluster ground, Grove brought the heat. Grove comes out in the second round and blasts France with a series of strikes and France falls. The fight is stopped.

Gaston Reyno (5-1) and Chuka Willis (7-2) met in a featherweight bout.Another one-sided fight that saw Willis control the majority of the fight with his clinch work and cage control. Reyno was searching for his movement and striking, but he never did or have a chance to let his hands go. In the end, Willis picked up the unanimous decision win.

Opening the main card on Spike TV for Bellator 150 was Lena Ovchynnikova (10-4) vs. Rebecca Ruth (6-1) in a flyweight bout. Ruth was the dominant fighter both on the feet and on the ground. She closed the distance with blitzing attacks and then slowed down the pace with her clinching and then utilized her takedowns throughout of the fight. Ovchynnikova never looked comfortable in the fight and made some mistakes that allowed Ruth to find gaps in her game. The fight went the distance, and Ruth was awarded the unanimous decision.
