UFC Baku: Abus Magomedov Floors Michal Oleksiejczuk With Crushing Elbow, Then Secures Submission In Round 1
Abus Magomedov’s bounce-back performance could not have been more impressive.
Opening the UFC Baku main card, the veteran middleweight produced one of the finest performances of his Octagon career, stopping Michal Oleksiejczuk with a first-round guillotine choke after dropping the dangerous Polish contender with a perfectly timed elbow.
Magomedov looked sharp from the outset, using his range and movement to keep Oleksiejczuk from settling into his rhythm. The German-based fighter mixed in kicks and straight punches while forcing his opponent to chase him across the cage.
“Hussar” repeatedly pressed forward, looking to land his trademark left hand, but Magomedov remained composed and made him pay for his aggression.
As Oleksiejczuk crashed into range once again, Magomedov intercepted him with a crushing elbow that instantly buckled the Pole and sent him tumbling to the canvas. Sensing the finish, Magomedov immediately jumped on his hurt opponent and locked up a tight guillotine choke.
The submission was secured at the 3:25 mark of Round 1, capping off a statement performance from the 35-year-old.
The victory allows Abus Magomedov to rebound from his submission loss to Joe Pyfer at UFC 320 and improves his promotional record to 5-3. He also moved to 29-7-1 as a professional.
