Just Another Blog Post about Peyton Manning

If you're a sports blogger, you're almost obligated to write about Peyton Manning today. So I might as well join in, as naturally, I have my own thoughts and opinions on him and the Colts cutting ties.

I've got a strange take on Manning. Since his Colts presented an ultimate rivalry to my Pats year in and year out during the Brady/Manning era, I'm not supposed to like him. But I kinnda do. I mean, he is such a great QB, you just can't stop admiring the things he does on the field. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I constantly root for him to do well, and I wish him nothing but the worst when he's up against New England, but I was happy when he got a Super Bowl ring and if he's in a game that doesn't mean much, I like seeing him complete amazing passes.

Seeing his press conference yesterday was sad and strange, even though we all knew the moment was coming. I think personally, what surprised me more than anything is how much it reminded me of the whole Montana – 49ers breakup. I was no more than 10 years old when that went down and I had no idea it stirred up any feeling back then. But I guess it did, because it came back yesterday and it was really familiar. There isn't a name for this particular feeling, but it's a mixture of "how odd"-"what a shame"-"what will happen next?", emotions.

So what now for Peyton? Potential teams names are flying around like crazy. I won't go in to every one of them, since every analyst on the plant is taking care of it. I do think teams needing major rebuilding with good draft positions are better off going after a long term solution and should go hard at RGIII (that's you, Washington). I think Manning is a perfect solution for teams with a QB they aren't yet sure about yet (Arizona, Cleveland) and would like a couple of years with Manning running the show till they figure out what they got.

As everyone knows, though, the question isn't who wants Manning but who does Manning want. Hate to say it, but if I'm him? Yea, (sigh)  I'm going to Miami.

Man, if he could just stick to playing in meaningless games…
