Alistair Overeem to voluntarily submit drug test today
Posted on June 20, 2012, 04:01 PM by Mike DrahotaIn response to Lorenzo Fertitta's announcement yesterday that Alistair Overeem's fate would be decided by the NSAC, Overeem has taken to Twitter and revealed his plans to submit a voluntary drug test today. Motivated by his removal from the title fight at UFC 146 versus Junior dos Santos, Overeem had announced that he would be fighting in December when his nine-month suspension is fulfilled. UFC co-owner Fertitta was quick to dispense any certainty of this notion, noting yesterday that his company could not afford to assume that The Reem would be back by the end of the year. Today it appears that Overeem is willing to go to great lengths to prove his eligibility to fight, stating the following via Twitter.com:
I'm doing a drug test today to build confidence with the Nevada state athletic commission and because I respect and appreciate the UFC.

It will remain to be seen if Overeem's passing of a random drug test will have any bearing on the NSAC's decision to reinstate him. However, it does show some initiative by a fighter who many have written off as a cheater since his failed test in early April. The UFC Heavyweight title is the only thing that The Reem has his sights set on, continuing with a statement directed towards current champion Junior dos Santos:

Today has brought some strong words from a strong man. Overeem will have his day to prove his name clean, and much of it will rest on the drug test results of the scrutinized fighter. Should Overeem be placed directly into a title fight with Junior dos Santos if he proves he truly is a clean and natural fighter this December?

this test proves nothing .. ronnie coleman could pass a few of these to get in the ufc.

i was wondering that myself. This would be an unscheduled drug test.
A random drug test is one that you don't know about until they ask for the sample.
He already did a random test, after that press conference we all know how that one turned out.
Lets end the PED problem: if you get caught you are out for good! No more Overoid,cyborg,feijao,chael,barnett,sherk,leben....i dont give a rats ass for cheaters.
Would be a shame for mma if overroid became champion !

It was never proven Overeem uses PED's, he just had elevated testosterone levels, that could have multiple reasons
@Qaos; Agreed BUUUUT... with levels like he had he was probably roiding. That said, medical science does not know everything. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that the way he trains or something in his unique physiology causes elevated T levels. It was recently discovered that the way Cross Fit trains people utilizes a fourth, hitherto unknown energy pathway. We are learning new stuff all the time. THAT said, he was probably just roiding. It doesn't really matter that much though. As much as I hate roiding there are probably more athletes skirting the rules here than not and it really just makes him big. He has the same skill either way.
