UFC Champ Jon Jones charged with DUI after accident
Posted on May 19, 2012, 02:30 PM by Mike Searson
USA Today is reporting that Light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones crashed his Bentley into a telephone pole when he was driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning. No injuries were reported at the scene, so Jones should still be on track to defend his title against Dan Henderson, at UFC 151 on September 1 in Las Vegas.
MMAweekly.com confirmed this with Malki Kawa, Jones’ manager, who said: “I can confirm that Jon Jones was arrested early this morning on suspicion of DUI. While the facts of this situation are still being gathered and situated, First Round Management fully supports Jon and we are asking for fans and media to respect the privacy of Jon and his family during this time.” Additionally, MMAWeekly secured a comment from Dana White who said: “It hasn’t been my week, has it?”, in reference to the Jones incident and White's syrgery on Thursday for Meinier's disease.
Last month USA Today quoted Jones in an interview prior to his victory over Rashad Evans at UFC 145 as saying: "We came up with a strategy to keep it clean and be sponsored by the UFC itself. I’m glad the UFC wanted to work with me as well, and I think that they trust that I’ll never make them look bad. You never have to worry about me with a DWI (driving while under the influence) or doing something crazy."
While Jones is not the first professional athelete to be arrested for DUI, he is perhaps the highest profiled fighter in the UFC to be so charged.

Haha!
Must have used too much mouth wash before he went out! Jon Jones would never drink and drive!
Ha!
apparently Rampage slipped him some energy drinks
I guess we are lucky that he never said we would not have to worry about him activating a tactical nuclear device. It is all about prespective.
For all we know Bones has the alcohol tolerance of a Chinese woman. Hey, at least he didn't test positive for PED's.
r u serious? my china women can drink!
@operationcwal
Yes, your naughty Chinese woman can drink alot!!!
She like the taste of my five dollar salty shot.
Yummy.
hahahha worst post ever
Driving drunk is much worse than PEDs
Driving drunk risks everyone's lives....plus I hate dealing with swervy drivers late at night that drive too slow and brake for no reason. A-holes.....but I have road rage so whatever.... but anyways point is.
Suck it
Spare the lecture. Driving drunk is obviously putting others in danger and that is a much more serious, irresponsible and messed up thing to do as a conscious human living in society. The joke had a tinge of cynicism but you didn't catch it. Next time though...
Cmon Jones is a square, how drunk could he have been off a can of Mike's Hard lemonade with an orange juice chaser?
That was a bad decision on Jon's part, but Sh1t happens.
Yes, and if you pontificate to the public like a sanctimonious douchebag about how you would never get in any trouble etc, you had better effing make sure you mind your p's and q's.
funny but hardly makes sense!
It makes perfect since to educated people. I seldom speak that way to avoid confusing members like you Mindkontroll
Hahaha you fvcking ****face, but you're so educated aren't you little boy?
Oh, and one more thing.... mind you p's and q's will ya?? Like a self-righteous narcissistic douchebag would. Point proven, you lose.
You just proved your age and education. I made my point without cursing like someone who lacks the skills to communicate. You fail and receive no points 8))
Remember Rashad calling him a hypocrite..
I told ya'll he's fake!!! Now gimme my belt back!!!
- Rashad
Every one in today's society is a hypocrite in some way, shape or form. Why should this surprise anyone?
Where is OdessaHitman? He should be here defending his champion. At any rate, I'm not a fan of Bones, but the kid is only human; therefore, he is gonna F-up every once in a while. Let's be thankful nobody got hurt, and hope that Bone's can learn from his mistakes like the rest of the world.
@ Mr Michael Perryman,
LOL :)
I got called out to defend Jon Jones,
glad you're thinking about me Michael - seriously, this would have been a hard one to defend, if he hadn't had his drink spiked with vodka by one of the Blackzillas, then been held down by Rashad, and had a crushed tablet rubbed onto his gums - none of this would have happened.
Fact is that Jon will never tell the world this truly happened as he doesn't want to admit to getting held down by Rashad.
II believe that party goers at the club attest to the fact that Jon's dancing improved considerably after the incident, and the only reason he went for a drive was to pick up fifty packs of chewing gum and ten gatorades for a late night party with Jenna Jameson and Tito Ortiz...
Fact can be stranger than fiction, just ask Rashad :)
Funny story! Wish there was a hi-light reel on that night! "He doesn't want to admit getting held down by Rashad", that was the best part.
I would like to see this on SNL!
Thanks Mike:)
That's why u shouldn't call yourself a role model. That is given by others and he had yet prove himself,
boom!
lmao!!!! all that is up must come down, let it begin, lol!!!!
And I got weaked for asking where this article was. Clowns!
It is pretty weak that I knew already huh?
That's not why.
The internet makes you strong 8))
Well yeah, I knew it was going to happen last week already.
inb4 Jones claims he just took communion.
LMAO @ that and the pic above.
Lightweight
Give the kid a break....he is just young.
How many of us had a couple of drinks ( or a dozen ) an drove home...glad no one got hurt.
@Brasil,
Perhaps you were so drunk that you mowed down an innocent victim but just didn't notice. It happened to my uncle Fred and aunty Mabel as they were walking home late one night in South Carolina.... You don't live in South Carolina, wear a white hood and drive a blue camper van with a picture of General Robert E Lee painted on the side do you?
Are you going to continue to deny to yourself and others what you have done Brasil???
Fact is, he went in front of the world and claimed to be a role model. He only disrespected himself.
We're all human and we all make mistakes. Jon is no different. Take a good look in the mirror before you judge. He messed up. But now all the people that don't like him will get even more upset when he wins. I love it!!
@matt1926,
On the subject of perfection.
If Jesus said, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone", and he himself was perfect, does that mean he wanted to throw the first stone himself???
The point others are making here is that like priests who profess morality and molest children, Jon Jones shouldn't profess morality and drink and drive, if that telephone pole was a child he would be, "in the joint Jones" hardest man on E Wing, the UFC's reputation would be damaged and it's a bad reflection on the sport we love.
The point it's that people do it every day, and although it's illegal; it is not uncommon. The fact that he got caught it's what makes this a game changer.
You are right Mike, people do it every day. People who don't take the responsibility of others lives when they get behind the wheel. Claiming everyone drives drunk crashes gets arrested and endangers others is not at all accurate. There are responsible people out there ---->me
I have been guilty of this, it was about 23 years ago. Three days in jail and a years worth of probation set me straight. I've been responsible ever since. Kinda like you Ent.
No one ever said that Jesus was without sin; just that he died for ours. Every one sins whether they want to admit it or not. People sin in their sleep.
I think that Jesus was trieing to say that it is impossible not to sin; so why do we rush in judgement of others when they are caught sinning?
Hi Mike,
You're right.
never say never
Thank God he's okay and nobody else got hurt. A DUI is inexcusable though, a serious crime that takes lives daily. Hopefully he takes full responsibility for his actions and can put this behind him.
I'm a huge fan, but wow that was dumb. You can't expect fighters to be model citizens, but then you shouldn't sell yourself as one.
JJ can say goodbye to that Nike sponsorship he's been dreaming about.
DUDE HANDLE YOUR EFFIN BOOZE!!!!
i know i fvcking can, arrrrrr arrrrrrr im drunk rite now..... aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
That explains a LOT.
Glad he's sponsored by Bud Light. Disappointed in him but glad no one was hurt. And I wish for once someone with money would wreck a Ford Fiesta.
im really dissapointed in him if its true.
so much for mr perfect. if some one has a role model in mma, it should be someone like JDS who is truly nice and humble, not a guy who talks about nothing but how much of a role model he is. no one is bigger fan of jones than jones.
Jesus was promoting God's love too, he also turned water into wine. Was he an alcoholic?
Jesus didn't get a DUI? Might have to check the records on that one, intoxicated chariot driving was a pretty bad problem back in the early AD's.
But in all seriousness, for every anti-Jon Jones activist that has jumped on this to yell "I TOLD YOU SO!!!1!1!", you need to calm down. Unless he went all Joe Son on someone, he isn't going to get stripped of the belt no matter how many rants typed in ALL CAPS are posted.
"Jesus never got a DUI"........Classic bro. classic. That statement would be even dumber than if I responded by telling you cars didn't exist during Jesus' time. And I bet you weren't calling for Rampage's head when he got his DUI and ran from the cops.
